Lucknow. The government has taken a big initiative for the girl students of Uttar Pradesh. Rani Laxmibai Scooty Scheme has been implemented with the aim of promoting higher education and making it easier for girl students to reach college. Under this, the meritorious girl students will be given petrol and many other necessary facilities along with scooty.
Meritorious girl students will get scooty
Under the scheme, the top 5 percent meritorious girl students passing graduation in the academic session 2025-26 will be selected. For this, details of girl students are being collected from state universities, private universities and eligible colleges affiliated to them. The package of the scooter will also include four liters of petrol, registration fee, comprehensive vehicle insurance, ISI marked helmet and necessary accessories. This means that along with getting the scooter for the girl students, the initial expenses will also be taken care of.
These girl students will also get benefits
Under the scheme, along with the meritorious girl students of the general category, special benefits will also be given to the families of sacrificers, disabled and destitute girl students. In these categories, there is a provision to include in the eligibility the girl students whose marks are 10 percent less than the prescribed merit. To avail the benefits of the scheme, the student must be a native of Uttar Pradesh. Also, the annual income of the family should not exceed Rs 12 lakh.
Distribution through function in the district
The list of eligible girl students will be prepared by the universities. After this, scooters will be distributed to the selected girl students at the District Magistrate level. There is a plan for distribution by organizing functions in every district. However, the final selection will be made at the government level. On one hand, this scheme of the government is expected to encourage girl students for higher education, while on the other hand, their problems in commuting to colleges and universities can also be reduced.
