The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is one of the most popular franchise T20 cricket tournaments in the world. Having started in 2013, players from all over the cricketing world participate in what is certainly one of the top five T20 leagues in the world.
The CPL was the first of its kind league in world cricket. Rather than franchises representing different cities in the same country, the CPL was the home of franchises representing different countries in the Caribbean. Such is the nature of cricket in the West Indies.
How Many Teams Play In The Caribbean Premier League 2026?
As one of the biggest franchise T20 leagues in the world, the Caribbean Premier League hosts players from all over the world. From the best cricketers in the West Indies to players from countries like New Zealand, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Pakistan, and the USA
Each team will have a squad of 17-20 and will compete in 10 games in the tournament phase. With seven teams in the competition, there will be 35 league-stage games. Add the four playoffs, which include two qualifiers, an Eliminator, and the final, and there will be 39 total matches played in CPl 2026. So, here are the seven teams that will be playing in the Caribbean Premier League 2026.
This is the third CPL season for the Antigua and Barbados Falcons. Their best finish in the league was in 2025, when they reached the playoffs for the first time and were knocked out in the Eliminator. The Falcons will be captained by veteran English all-rounder Moeen Ali. Some of the players to watch out for from this team include pacer Jayden Seales, Pakistani all-rounder Shadab Khan, and fast-bowler spinner Alzarri Joseph.
Next up is the Barbados Tridents. They reverted back to their old name after going by the name of Barbados Royals for a few seasons. The Tridents are a two-time CPL champion, having won the league in 2014 and 2019. In 2025, they reached Qualifier 2. Their captain this season will be Australian all-rounder Chris Greenl. Some other key players include batter Sherfane Rutherford, South African wicketkeeper/batter Quinton de Kock, and West Indies spinner Gudakesh Motie.
Guyana Amazon Warriors are next. This team has been in the league since the inaugural 2013 season and has finished as the runners-up in seven out of 13 seasons, but has won it only once in 2023. The Amazon Warriors will be led by 47-year-old South African spinner Imran Tahir. Some of the players to keep an eye on from this team include batter Shimron Hetmyer and the wicketkeeper/batter trio of Shai Hope, Glenn Phillips, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
Jamaica had a team in the CPL from 2013 to 2023. However, the Jamaican Tallawahs were eventually disbanded. Now, after three years, a Jamaican team returned to the Caribbean Premier League by the name of Jamaica Kingsmen. Their skipper in their inaugural season will be former West Indies captain Rovman Powell. Some of their key players this season will be veteran all-rounder Andre Rusel, young Pakistani batting all-rounder Saim Ayub, and pacer Jediah Blades.
The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots played their first CPL season in 2015. In their 11 seasons in the league, they have won one, back in 2021. Their captain in the 2026 season will be veteran West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder. Some of the Patriots’ players to look out for include Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, wicketkeeper/batter Johnson Charles, and Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah.
The Saint Lucia Kings, formerly known as the St Lucia Stars and the St Lucia Zouks, have been in the CPL, in one form or another, since the inaugural 2013 season. They won their only title in 2024, and reached the second qualifier in 2025. They will be captained this year by veteran all-rounder Roston Chase. Some of their key players this season will be wicketkeeper/batter Tim Seifert and the spin duo of Noor Ahmad and Maheesh Theekshana.
Last but not least, the Trinbago Knight Riders. This is by far the most successful team in CPL history, having won five titles in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2025. They come into this season as the defending champions. They will be captained this season by stalwart wicketkeeper/batter Nicholas Pooran. This team also has an abundance of internationally recognised cricket stars, like the legendary West Indies all-rounder duo of Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard, veteran T20 batter Alex Hales, and the spin duo of Akeal Hosein and Pakistan’s Usman Tariq.
