Monsoon activity continues in the hilly and plain areas of Uttarakhand. The Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert of heavy rain in the capital Dehradun as well as Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts. There are full chances of light to moderate rain in other parts of the state also.
In view of this serious warning from the Meteorological Department, the government has given strict instructions to the concerned district administrations to remain alert 24 hours and keep the entire disaster management system on alert mode.
Devotees washed away in the strong flow of Ganga in Haridwar
On the other hand, a very painful accident has come to light in Haridwar. While taking bath at Chitrakoot Ghat located in Bhupatwala area on Tuesday evening, a devotee from Uttar Pradesh was suddenly swept away in the strong current of the swollen Ganga. According to information received from the State Emergency Operations Center, the missing person has been identified as 52-year-old Shyam, resident of Baraut in Baghpat district of UP.
He was taking bath at the ghat when suddenly he got caught in the strong current of Ganga. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the teams of Water Police and SDRF immediately started a joint search operation, but till late evening no trace of them could be found.
Highest rainfall of 43 mm in Chakrata, temperature dropped
According to Meteorological Director Dr. CS Tomar, this period of rain will continue across the state for the time being. Travelers traveling in landslide-prone and sensitive mountainous areas have been advised to take special precautions. According to Meteorological Department data, maximum rainfall of 43 mm was recorded in Chakrata area of Dehradun during the last 24 hours. Whereas Dhanaulti has received 35 mm rainfall and Rikhanikhal has received 33.5 mm rainfall.
Apart from this, a drop in temperature has been recorded due to good showers in Rishikesh (Neelkanth), Sahasradhara, Laksar, Bajpur, Banbasa and Rudrapur. The maximum temperature of Dehradun was recorded at 32.6 degrees and the minimum at 24.6 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in Pantnagar was 31.8 degrees Celsius and in Mukteshwar it was 18.4 degrees Celsius. The administration has instructed people and tourists living on the river banks to constantly keep an eye on the water level.
