The second test match played between India and Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club ended in a 'draw'. With this, Team India won the 2-match series 1-0. On Thursday, the fifth day of the match, the host country had scored 429 runs after losing 9 wickets in its second innings, after which both the countries agreed to a draw.
The Indian team wanted to win by taking the last 4 wickets of the Sri Lankan team quickly and achieving the easy target on the fifth day of the match, but Sonal Dinusha spoiled the intentions of the visiting team by scoring a century in the second consecutive innings of the match.
After winning the toss, the Indian team came to bat and declared the first innings on the score of 503/9. In this innings, there was a partnership of 120 runs between Devdutt Padikal and Shubman Gill, while Rishabh Pant added 112 runs with Dhruv Jurel.
Padikkal played an innings of 117 runs with 12 fours, while Jurel scored an unbeaten 115 runs. Pant returned to the pavilion after scoring 63 runs and captain Gill returned after scoring 50 runs. From the opposition camp, Asitha Fernando took 4 wickets, while Prabhat Jayasuriya and Keshara Nuwantha took 2 wickets each.
In response, Sri Lanka's first innings was reduced to 290 runs. The host team had lost 3 wickets till the score of 35, after which Pasindu Suriyabandara (80) along with Kamindu Mendis (32) took over the team by adding 87 runs for the fourth wicket.
Sri Lanka had lost 7 wickets till the score of 173. After this Sonal Dinusha (103) took charge. He made a partnership of 57 runs with Keshara Nuwanutha and 58 runs with Lahiru Kumara (12), taking the team to a score of 290, but could not save the follow-on. For India, Prasidh Krishna and Manav Suthar took 3 wickets each, while Saransh Jain got 2 wickets.
India forced Sri Lanka to play follow on. In response, the Sri Lankan team lost 2 wickets till the score of 63. After this, Pasindu Suriyabandara along with Kamindu Mendis added 115 runs for the third wicket and took the team to the score of 178.
Suriyabandara returned to the pavilion after scoring 92 runs. By the end of the fourth day, the host team had scored 229 runs after losing 6 wickets in their second innings. From here they had a lead of only 16 runs, but on the last day the Indian team could not take the last 4 wickets of Sri Lanka.
Sonal Dinusha along with Keshara Nuwanutha added 112 runs for the seventh wicket. Keshra was out after scoring 46 runs with 4 fours, after which Sonal kept the lead. Sonal remained at the crease till the end. He played an unbeaten inning of 133 runs in 264 balls with 2 sixes and 8 fours. In this innings, Ravindra Jadeja and Manav Suthar took 3-3 wickets for India, while Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj and Saransh Jain took 1-1 wicket.
India had won the first match of the series by 165 runs, after which the Sri Lankan team had to win this match at any cost to draw the series, but despite the second match being a draw, India won this series.
