New Delhi: There has been a big shock for those driving vehicles using CNG in the capital Delhi. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has increased the price of CNG by Rs 3.89 per kg. The new rates have come into effect from 6 am on August 29, 2026. This means that now to fill CNG in Delhi, you will have to spend more money than before.
Now for how much will CNG be available in Delhi?
After the price increase, the new rate of CNG in Delhi has become Rs 86.98 per kg. Earlier, customers had to pay Rs 83.09 for one kg CNG. In this way there has been a direct increase of Rs 3.89 per kg.
This change in the price of CNG has been made at a time when a large number of people use CNG vehicles due to its lower cost compared to petrol and diesel. It may also have a direct impact on rental vehicles, taxis and auto drivers.
Impact of West Asia crisis
According to IGL, the main reason behind increasing the price of CNG is the increased cost of LNG in the international market. Due to the ongoing crisis in West Asia, the supply of LNG through the Strait of Hormuz has been affected.
The company says that after the crisis deepened again from July 2026, global LNG prices have increased significantly. The price of international LNG has almost doubled compared to before the crisis.
Dependence on imported LNG became the reason
According to IGL, to meet the requirement of CNG, a large amount of gas comes from imported LNG. The company's costs have increased due to the rise in international prices. It has been decided to increase the price of CNG to pass on some part of this increased cost to the customers.
When did the new prices come into effect?
IGL said that the new prices are applicable from 6 am on Saturday, August 29. According to the company, this increase has been made to partially compensate for the increasing gas cost. People driving CNG vehicles in Delhi will now have to pay Rs 3.89 more on every kg of gas.
