The government is now considering E10 petrol. To ease the woes of owners of older vehicles, the government has decided to consider the option of introducing E10 petrol with 10 percent ethanol blend. For this, plans are being made to convert premium petrol to E10. Recently the CMD of BPCL himself disclosed this information.

The CMD of BPCL gave this information in a virtual press conference held after the annual general meeting of the company. According to him, there is no need for any new infrastructure to sell E10 petrol. Oil companies are not facing any major supply crisis at present.

Currently, discussions are going on between the government and the oil companies in this matter. Therefore, the picture regarding the final decision is not yet clear. There are no plans to bring back E0 and E10 petrol, as the Petroleum Ministry told Parliament in July. Therefore, these discussions, which started in August, raise questions. Ananth Nageswaran also talked about making E10 an option for older vehicles, so there is growing doubt about this whole situation.
