Central Hospital, North Central Railway, Prayagraj has achieved an important achievement by successfully performing intestinal anastomosis without stitches for the first time using modern circular stapler technology.
On August 24, 2026, through this complex operation (end-to-end colorectal anastomosis) that lasted for about 4 hours, relief was provided to 31-year-old patient Mamta Maurya, who was forced to defecate through the stomach for the last three months.
. Using this state-of-the-art technique without any stitches, intestinal continuity was re-established and the patient successfully defecated through the normal route on 27 August 2026. The patient's condition is completely stable and he will be discharged from the hospital soon. This successful surgery was jointly led by Dr. Shabi Ahmed, former Chairman of the Department of Surgery, Motilal Nehru Medical College and Honorary Visiting Consultant Surgeon, and Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Senior Railway Surgeon, Central Hospital. In the surgical team, House Surgeon Dr. Saurabh Kumar Maurya, Head of Anesthesia Team, Senior Anesthetist Dr. Alok Kumar Yadav, Chief Nursing Superintendent Mrs. Manju Sonkar, Senior Nursing Superintendent Mr. Harish Kumar Sharma, Nursing Superintendent Anshika, Dresser Aarti Prasad and Medical Assistants Amit Shukla, Manmohan, Mr. Moolchand, Mrs. Rekha and Rajendra Tiwari made excellent contributions.
