New Delhi : To ensure smooth movement of trains, reduce stress on tracks and increase speed of passenger and freight trains Indian Railwayshas undertaken a major infrastructure initiative. Railways is going to work on four-tracking of its length of about 11 thousand km. This decision will not only increase the capacity of trains, but also reduce traffic congestion on major roads.
Highlighting the importance of the seven major high density routes, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, these corridors handle a major share of rail traffic in the country. These seven lines of about 11,000 kilometers constitute only 16 percent of the entire railway network, yet about 41 percent of the total rail traffic in the country is carried by these tracks. The Railway Minister also highlighted the economic and environmental benefits of rail transport.

Work without disrupting traffic
According to the Ministry of Railways, increasing the number of tracks on these lines connecting major metros and industrial hubs will improve the smooth running of trains, reduce the strain on existing tracks by laying additional tracks and significantly reduce train delays.
'Kavach 4.0' will increase security
Along with the expansion of the railway network, there is also a special emphasis on safety. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, the Railway Minister said that Kavach 40, an indigenous automatic train protection system, has been extended to 2.450 route kilometers on the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah rail corridors.
