New Delhi : Everest Company and Lalji Godhu have been barred from selling asafoetida powder. This ban has been imposed by the country's food regulator FSSAI on Saturday. It has been told by FSSAI that asafoetida samples were taken in the investigation, which were not found to be as per the standard and the label was also wrong. Samples of Everest's Yellow Asafoetida Powder and Black Asafoetida Powder were also found to be of poor quality.
FSSAI has issued a warning to the company to remove its shortcomings otherwise further action will be taken.
More salt information not shared
The information given by FSSAI also revealed that the company's chicken masala, garam masala and egg curry powder contained 5 percent more salt than the standard, but the amount of salt was not mentioned on the label, apart from this, the quantity of spices was also not mentioned on the label.
At the same time, the asafoetida of Godhu & Company has also not been up to the mark in quality and has also been found adulterated. The information given by FSSAI has revealed that the raw asafoetida used in making compounded asafoetida has excess starch in it. This too has not been up to standard. The amount of starch in asafoetida should be in proportion to its weight.
