Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay conducted a surprise inspection of Chennai's Puzhal Central Prison and interacted with inmates to understand their concerns and review the facilities provided inside the jail complex.
The visit focused on key areas including inmate welfare, food quality, medical services, rehabilitation programs and overall prison administration.
Vijay Inspects High-Security Blocks, Hospital and Training Centers
During the inspection, CM Vijay visited several important sections of Puzhal Central Prison-1, including the quarantine zone, visitors' hall, prison hospital, de-addiction rehabilitation centre, classrooms, library, computer training centre, high-security block and execution area.

He also reviewed the vocational training facilities where inmates are engaged in producing iron vegetable racks, paper envelopes and office file folders.
The Chief Minister inspected the powerloom division, which manufactures blankets and other textile products, along with the tailoring unit operating inside the prison.
Direct Interaction With Prisoners
Vijay personally checked the quality of food served to inmates and spoke directly with prisoners to hear their issues, requirements and suggestions.
Officials said the inspection was aimed at ensuring better living conditions and improving welfare measures for inmates.
CM Vijay Later Visits Police Station
After completing the prison inspection, the Chief Minister visited the M-3 Puzhal police station, where he reviewed daily operations and checked administrative records.
He inspected station registers, the sub-inspector's room, computer room and lock-up facilities.
Senior Officials Accompany CM
The inspection was attended by senior officials, including Director General of Police and Director of Prisons and Correctional Services Sandeep Rai Rathore, Deputy Inspector General of Prisons (Chennai Range) T Palani, Prison Superintendent Krishnaraj and other government officers.
Puzhal Central Prison is among the largest prison complexes in India and houses facilities focused on security, rehabilitation and skill development of inmates.
