ACC Women's T20 Asia Cup 2026 has started. This tournament being organized in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will run till 13 September. The Indian team has been placed in Group A along with Pakistan, Hong Kong and Thailand. Team India, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, will start its campaign against Thailand today (30 August). This match will be played at Dubai International Stadium.
Team India is the most successful team of Asia Cup. On the other hand, Thailand team is trying to prove itself in the cricket world. They made a winning start by defeating Hong Kong by 6 runs in the tournament opener. However, the Indian team had to face a tough challenge. While Team India is at number three in the ICC T20 rankings, Thailand's world ranking is 12th.
Not only this, the Indian team has been champion 7 times in the Women's Asia Cup held 9 times so far. This tournament was started in ODI format in 2004. Till 2008, there were 4 editions of the ODI format, in which every time India defeated Sri Lanka and won the title. Its format changed in 2012 and now it is played in T20 format. The Indian team also dominates in T20 and has won 3 titles in 5 editions. In this way, the Indian team has 7 Asia Cup titles (4 ODI and 3 T20).

What is the condition of Pakistan team?
This time the India-Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup will take place on 5th September. Pakistan team has never won the Women's Asia Cup title. She had performed brilliantly in 2012 and 2016 and reached the finals but could not overcome the challenge of the Indian team. The Pakistani team has not reached the title match since then.
Where does the Sri Lankan team stand?
Sri Lanka is the second most successful team after India in the Women's Asia Cup. She has won only 1 trophy but has been the runner-up 5 times. The Sri Lankan team surprised India in 2024 and lifted its first Asia Cup trophy. In the final played in Dambulla, Team India had set a strong target of 166 runs, which Sri Lanka easily achieved by losing 2 wickets in 18.4 overs. This time the Sri Lankan team is going to defend its title.

Bangladesh also got 1 title
It was Bangladesh that stopped Vijayrath of the Indian women's team in the Asia Cup. In 2018, Bangladesh had created history by defeating Team India by 3 wickets in the final match played in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This was the first time that a team other than India became champion in the Women's Asia Cup. However, the Bangladeshi team has not been able to make it to the final since then.
