Raipur :- In a major administrative reshuffle in the government medical colleges of Chhattisgarh, the government has changed the postings of 14 senior doctors and medical officers. The biggest impact has been on those posts from where the administrative and treatment systems of medical colleges and affiliated hospitals are run. In many institutions, the responsibilities of the in-charge dean and hospital superintendent have been changed.
This decision of the government is being considered an important step towards making the administrative functioning of medical colleges and hospital operations more effective in the state. The order has been implemented with immediate effect and the transferred doctors will have to join at their new posting within 15 days. If the burden is not relieved within the prescribed period, the concerned doctor will be automatically considered relieved.
Somewhere the dean changed, somewhere the command of the hospital changed.
If we look at the picture of transfer, Dr. Pratibha Jain Shah, professor at Raipur Medical College, has been made the dean in-charge of Government Medical College, Kabirdham. Dr. Ajay Kosram, dean in-charge of Kabirdham, has been made professor of pediatrics department in Rajnandgaon Medical College.
A big change has also taken place in Korba Medical College. The in-charge hospital superintendent here, Dr. Gopal Singh Kanwar, has been made the in-charge dean of Jashpur Medical College. Dr. Ravikant Das, professor of orthopedics department of Raipur Medical College, has been given the responsibility of hospital superintendent in-charge of Korba Medical College.
Dr. RC Arya has been appointed as the officer in charge of Ambikapur Medical College.
This reshuffle will affect the administrative system of medical colleges like Kabirdham, Rajnandgaon, Jashpur, Ambikapur, Korba, Durg, Bilaspur and Janjgir-Champa. That means, with a single order, the picture of leadership and hospital operations in many important medical institutions of the state has changed.
Now the real test of the new team
The biggest challenge before the government is not just the exchange of officers, but its visible impact on the ground on patients and medical education. The officers assuming the new responsibility will have many fronts like increasing number of patients in hospitals, availability of specialist services, better utilization of resources, quality of medical education and administrative coordination.
Medical colleges are not only educational institutions but also major centers of tertiary health services for a large surrounding area. In such a situation, with the new responsibilities of the Deans and Hospital Superintendents, there is hope that the speed of administrative decisions will increase and patients will get direct benefits of the treatment system.
