The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) has placed a two-year ban on Bengal leg-spinner Rohit Yadav after the player had misreported his age. The move comes as a blow to Rohit, who was just about to turn an important chapter in his career, as he was recently included in the Under-19 squad to play the Australia home tour series.
Rohit, who hails from UP's western region, was part of the Under-19 squad, which went on a tour of Sri Lanka, which concluded in July this year. He picked six wickets during the tour and was also instrumental in India clinching the final Test match against Sri Lanka. He has been named to play in India's U-19 one-day and multi-day fixtures against Australia in Rajkot and Ahmedabad in the upcoming games.
Multiple Birth Records Trigger BCCI Action
The problem started when the spinner's documents were challenged in the Sri Lanka tour. As per reports, Rohit has three birth certificates with different years of origin. He even has three different ages in his Aadhaar records. The spinner has been charged with being ineligible to play for the age-group teams.
As per reports, at the time of registration with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), his year of birth was mentioned as 2007, but it was changed to 2006 in 2017. Then it was changed again to 2009 in 2020, and then it was changed to 2006 in 2021.
Meanwhile, the CAB was already keeping him away from the junior teams due to the irregularities in the age mentioned in the documents. The association had already reported the matter to BCCI.
The board has banned the spinner for two years from playing domestic cricket and has intimated the same to all the cricket associations across the country. One of the board's sources said that the spinner has been banned for two years.

CAB Registers 62 Players For Ineligibility
The CAB has taken strict action against several players for misrepresenting their age and registration details. As many as 62 players have been marked ineligible to register or transfer themselves with any cricket association for the 2026–27 and 2027–28 seasons. The players concerned are Ravi Kumar, who was a pivotal member of India's Under-19 World Cup-winning squad, and Vishal Bhatti, the left-arm spin all-rounder.
This is the second time that the CAB has taken action against players for the same reason. The association has noticed massive discrepancies in the ages of several Under-19 players who have been at the junior level for years. It is said that Ravi Kumar's age in the CAB records differs by as many as 45 months. Besides Ravi, Vishal, and the Under-19 World Cup-winning captain Rohit, several other Under-20 players have also been found to have irregularities in their registration documents.
The latest action has been taken by CAB against players for irregularities in their age and registration details. The association has uploaded the list of players whose registrations have been questioned on the association's website.
