SBI levies charges on its account holders i.e. both savings account holders and salary account holders. In this, you will have to pay a higher fee for cash withdrawal. The bank has updated its website regarding this change.
4 times free service and subsequent charges
According to SBI, the new charges will be applicable on Basic Savings Bank Deposit Accounts opened through branches from October 1. As per the changes, customers will now get four free withdrawals per month, but after that you will be charged ₹15 plus GST for each ATM withdrawal.
This new charge will be applicable only if withdrawals are made more than four times in a month. This means that customers who regularly withdraw money from ATMs need to be extra careful about the amount they withdraw. For example, if you complete four ATM transactions, the fifth transaction will incur ₹15 GST and all subsequent transactions will be charged as applicable.
For which accounts will this change occur?
As per changes in SBI Salary Account rules effective from October 1, the bank has reduced the limit of free transactions for employees. From October 1, 2026, salary account holders with State Bank of India will be able to make only five transactions per month using their debit cards at ATMs and Automated Deposit and Withdrawal Machines (ADWMS) of other banks. Earlier this limit was 10 free transactions.
Pay special attention to this
Considering the change in SBI ATM norms, the state bank has reduced the ATM withdrawal limit for salary account holders. But they have also clarified that the limit of five-free transactions will cover both financial and non-financial transactions. Simply put, this includes not only cash withdrawals, but also non-financial services like checking your account balance through ATMs and getting mini-statements.
How many charges will be levied?
If you withdraw after the free ATM withdrawal limit provided by the bank, you will have to pay Rs.23 plus GST for each withdrawal transaction on the sixth transaction of the month. For non-financial transactions, you will have to pay Rs 11 plus GST after the free limit.
