Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, located in Kutch, Gujarat has created a new record. DPA has set a new historical record by crossing an all-time high of 12.7 million tonnes in ship-to-ship transshipment.
Deendayal Port Authority said in a statement issued on Saturday that this success has been achieved in operations till September 1, 2026, which is the largest figure so far in the history of ship-to-ship operations. This is another important achievement in its operational journey.
Announcing the achievement in a post on Twitter, DPA Kandla said the achievement reflects the port’s growing maritime capabilities, efficient functioning and its vital role in improving the country’s logistics ecosystem and promoting port-led development.
This achievement reflects the high operational efficiency, modern maritime infrastructure and rapidly growing business confidence of Kandla Port.
Significant increase in ship-to-ship operations: Helps reduce logistics costs Ship-to-ship (STS) transshipment process involves direct transfer of cargo from larger vessels (mother vessels) to smaller vessels (daughter vessels) on the high seas.
According to data from DPA Kandla Port has handled 70.03MMT cargo and became the fastest major port in India to achieve this feat.
This feat was achieved 32 days earlier than the previous financial year, and also marked a year-on-year increase of 23.02 percent.
Earlier, on July 27, DPA Kandla created another record by handling the highest cargo of 7,83,816 MT in a single day; This surpassed its previous record of 7,78,570 metric tonnes set on June 17.
Deendayal Port Administration said in a statement that this new record has been possible due to continuous expansion of cargo handling capacity, digitalization and implementation of safe maritime processes.
According to officials, the transshipment figures are expected to increase further in the remaining months of the current financial year 2026-27, which will give new impetus to the ‘Maritime India Vision’ and port-led economic growth.
