Caitlin Clark is an Indiana Fever star, through and through, but this weekend, she’s on Team USA. Clark is one of the WNBA players who’s representing the red, white and blue at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany.
Clark and Team USA are off to a good start, too. They notched a 94-61 win over China on Friday and are advancing.
During the game, Clark didn’t just win. She made history. Are you surprised? You shouldn’t be. That’s kind of what Clark does.
Caitlin Clark made history in her Team USA debut
Clark actually notched a few milestones. According to Scout Springgate of the Hawkeyes Wire”Clark dished 11 assists, the most by a player in their FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup debut with the U.S., surpassing Alyssa Thomas’ nine against Belgium in 2022.”
Springgate adds that, “Clark also had zero turnovers to become the first in Women’s World Cup history to record at least 10 assists without a turnover. Clark is also one of eight players to record more than 10 assists in a Women’s World Cup game since the statistic was officially recorded in 1994.”
That’s very impressive. It’s that kind of showing that will help Clark when she’s back on the court on Sunday.
“Just super excited. Being surrounded by five people that have won gold medals before at the highest level, you just try to follow their lead and take every bit of wisdom that they can give you,” Clark said of her debut game with the team, according to Jack Maloney of CBS Sports. “Whatever role I have, I’m gonna come in and do it to the best of my ability and play hard. I think that’s what’s so fun about it.”
