Sudivya Sonu, not the first, Hemant government has lost 3 education ministers in 3 and a half years

Late Saturday, there was a painful turn in the politics of Jharkhand which shook the entire state. With the sudden demise of Sudivya Kumar Sonu, senior cabinet minister and senior leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), a very sad and strange coincidence has once again emerged in the politics of the state.

 

This is the third minister who has held the responsibility of education department of Jharkhand government in the last three and a half years and who has died untimely. Before this, Jagarnath Mahato and Ramdas Soren have also said goodbye to the world.

What happened on Saturday night?

Sudivya Kumar Sonu died in Giridih late Saturday night. According to the family, he was preparing to sleep at his home in Harsingraidih when suddenly his health deteriorated. He complained of chest pain, after which the family immediately took him to Mercy Hospital in Giridih. He died during treatment there. It is being told that he had a heart attack.

Jharkhand lost 3 education ministers in 3 and a half years

  • Jagarnath Mahato (6 April 2023): Tiger Jagarnath Mahato, who was MLA from Dumri for four consecutive terms, was the Minister of School Education and Literacy in the Hemant government. He had serious problems in his lungs after corona infection. He died during prolonged treatment after lung transplant in Chennai.
  • Ramdas Soren (15 August 2025): In 2024, when JMM government was formed again under the leadership of Hemant Soren, Ghatshila MLA and senior party leader Ramdas Soren was handed over the Education Ministry. He also died suddenly on Independence Day i.e. 15 August 2025.
  • Sudivya Kumar Sonu (6 September 2026): Now there is disappointment among the people due to the demise of Sudivya Sonu, who was handling the responsibility of higher education. Apart from the Higher and Technical Education Department, Sudivya Kumar Sonu also had the responsibility of many important and big departments like Tourism, Art-Culture, Sports and Youth Work and Urban Development and Housing.
