How much onion stock from the government?
The central government has created a buffer stock of approximately 1.21 lakh tonnes of onion for the year 2026. This onion is being distributed to various states and cities as per requirement. The government is supplying onion to the market through its agencies, NCCF and NAFED. Apart from trucks, special trains like 'Kanda Express' are also being used to transport onions from onion producing states to major cities. But large quantities of onion have already been delivered to Delhi and Chennai. Now preparations are underway to send onions to Guwahati as well.
