PM Narendra Modi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a tour of Gujarat and Maharashtra today (September 8, 2026). Foundation laying, inauguration and national dedication of various development projects worth more than 35 thousand crore rupees will be done in Vadodara at around 12 noon. Then at around 5.45 pm in Mumbai of the Prime Minister The 'Global Fintech Fest 2026' will be inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi.
An important milestone for the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor
During this visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate three important sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor. More than Rs 20,700 crore has been spent on these three sections with a total route length of 326 km. These include Sanand (North)-Makarpura, New Umbargaon-New Safale and New Safale-JNPT sections. After the commissioning of this section, the dedicated freight corridor network will be operational along its entire length.

Direct connectivity to JNPA
This project will create direct freight connectivity with Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority i.e. JNPA. Therefore, import-export i.e. transport of EXIM cargo can be done faster. Along with strengthening the connectivity between industrial hubs and ports, it will help reduce freight time and logistics costs. A major benefit of this project is the reduction of freight pressure on Mumbai's existing rail network.
Green flag for goods trains from four places
The Prime Minister will flag off freight train services from New Sanand (North), New Makarpura, New Umbargaon and New JNPT. Along with this, a new train service from Vadodara to Tanda Road will also be started. It is expected to benefit Vadodara, Chhota Udaipur and Alirajpur districts.
9,700 crore three more railway projects
Prime Minister's Three with a length of 329 km and a cost of over Rs 9,700 crore of railway projects Foundation will also be done. These include Vadodara-Ratlam 3rd and 4th railway lines, Miyagam Karajan-Choranda-Malsar gauge conversion and Vishwamitri-Dabhoi doubling projects. These projects are expected to increase passenger as well as freight capacity between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Highway projects also promoted
The foundation of three national highway projects worth around Rs 1,780 crore will be laid. These include six-lane upgrading of the Kamrej-Chalthan section on NH-48, additional infrastructure including major bridges over the Tapi and Narmada rivers on the Vadodara-Surat route and grade-separated structures at Abhwa, Mindhola and Khajod junctions on NH-53. Six-tier flyovers at Kandari Chowkdi and Luwara Patia will also be inaugurated.
Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the seventh edition of the Global Fintech Fest 2026 to be held from September 8 to 11 in Mumbai today. This year's theme is “Potential to Impact: Agentic AI, Tokenisation, Quantum – Trusted, Connected, Global Systems for Inclusive Finance”. The conference will be attended by policymakers, regulators, central banks, financial institutions, fintech and technology companies, investors and representatives from the education sector.
