Business Desk – PM Kisan Rules: Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana i.e. PM Kisan Samman Nidhi provides financial assistance to crores of farmers of the country. Under this scheme, Rs 6,000 is given annually to the eligible farmer family.
This amount is sent directly to the bank account of the beneficiary in three installments. But if the farmer taking benefit of the scheme dies, can any other member of the family get the benefit of PM Kisan? The government has set rules regarding this.
The scheme is not automatically transferred after the death of the farmer.
On the death of a beneficiary farmer, the benefit of PM Kisan is not automatically transferred to the name of any family member. For this, it is necessary that the ownership of the cultivable land of the deceased farmer should be transferred to the name of another eligible member of the family through inheritance.
The new land owner will also have to fulfill the remaining eligibility conditions of PM Kisan. That is, merely being a family member of the deceased beneficiary is not enough to get the benefits of the scheme.
The new owner of the land may get benefits
According to the official FAQ of PM Kisan, if after the death of the farmer, the ownership of his cultivable land passes to another person in the family through inheritance, then the new land owner can avail the benefits of the scheme.
For this he will have to fulfill all the necessary conditions of the scheme. Therefore, after the death of the farmer, it is necessary for the family to first register the name of the legal heir in the land records.
Husband-wife and minor children also included in the family
According to the rules of PM Kisan Yojana, a farmer family consists of husband, wife and minor children. However, the benefit of the scheme is available only to the owner of cultivable land.
If cultivable land comes in the name of spouse or minor child in the family of the deceased farmer and they fulfill the eligibility of the scheme, then their details can be updated as the new beneficiary.
How will the name be updated in PM Kisan?
After the death of the beneficiary farmer, the family will first have to register the name of the successor in the land records. After this, the concerned state, district or agriculture department officials can be contacted to update the information of the new eligible beneficiary in PM Kisan.
For this, documents related to death certificate, land related records and identification of the new beneficiary can be sought. The process may be different in different states. Therefore, the family should get correct information about the process from the agriculture department of their district or state.
Hiding information about a dead farmer may prove costly
The family must update the information about the death of the beneficiary farmer in the government records. Many times the family does not give information about the death because the installments of the scheme are continuing, but it is not right to do so.
Before releasing the installment of PM Kisan, the eligibility of the beneficiaries is checked. If a deceased beneficiary is detected during investigation, the department can take action. Therefore, it is important to update the records on time after the death of the farmer.

If the PM Kisan beneficiary has died, the scheme will not be directly transferred to the name of the family member. First, it is necessary that the legal ownership of the cultivable land be in the name of the new person. After this, after completing the eligibility, the new land owner can avail the benefits of PM Kisan Yojana.
