After the death of seven people, including five students, when a PG building collapsed in Delhi's Satya Niketan area, the Municipal Corporation (MCD) has intensified action against dangerous buildings, unauthorized construction and violation of building rules. Taking lessons from the accident, the corporation's teams are continuously carrying out bulldozer action. MCD's action is expected to continue in about 10 areas of Delhi including Karol Bagh, Chandni Chowk in the coming days. In these areas, dangerous buildings and construction done in violation of rules will be identified and action will be taken against them.
MCD action continues in all 12 zones
Days after the PG building collapse incident in Satya Niketan, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Thursday continued demolition and enforcement action in all 12 zones of the capital. Seven people died in the Satya Niketan accident, while at least five were injured. MCD teams are taking action against structures violating building rules. In the scenes seen from Laxmi Nagar, Jagatpuri and Pandav Nagar, the corporation teams were seen taking demolition action against the construction done illegally and in violation of rules.
Action in many areas including Karol Bagh and Chandni Chowk
In the last two-three days, the MCD team has also taken action in Vishwas Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar, Jamia Nagar, Shaheen Bagh, Tilak Nagar, Karampura, Karol Bagh, Ramesh Nagar, Mansarovar Garden, Chandni Chowk and Nehru Vihar. Demolition and enforcement drives were carried out against dangerous buildings, unauthorized construction and violation of building norms in these areas. The Corporation is expected to continue taking action in these areas also.
Bulldozer action started again in Satya Niketan also
Meanwhile, MCD has also resumed the controlled demolition of the building adjacent to the PG building that collapsed in Satya Niketan on September 6. According to officials, this building is being demolished in a phased manner, so that the surrounding structures are not damaged. The MCD action is part of a broader campaign against unauthorized construction, illegal use of properties and structurally unsafe buildings across Delhi.
Survey conducted in 1252 PG buildings
As part of the safety assessment campaign launched after the Satya Niketan tragedy, the MCD surveyed 1,252 paying guest (PG) buildings in Delhi between September 7 and 9. During this, the safety of PG buildings and adherence to rules was assessed. According to official records, between June 1 and September 9, the MCD carried out 1,053 demolition actions as part of the citywide enforcement drive. During this period, 491 properties were sealed, while 2,316 show cause notices and 757 demolition notices were issued.
