According to a new report presented by People Research on India's Consumer Economy (PRICE) and Tata Sons, urban consumers spend about 61.5% of the money they spend in the entire week in just 48 hours of Saturday and Sunday.

The report states that a typical urban consumer spends an average of Rs 6,724 daily from Monday to Friday, while on weekends this amount increases to Rs 10,732. This shows that people spend more on travel, entertainment and lifestyle rather than essential items.

During the weekend, consumers are at the forefront in spending as per their desires. Expenditure on fashion and clothing purchases increases by 2.03 times compared to normal days to Rs 1,075. Similarly, expenditure on entertainment increases by 2.02 times to Rs 662 and expenditure on electronics increases by 1.99 times to Rs 695.

Rajasthan's capital Jaipur leads in spending on weekends, where spending increases 2.76 times. After this there are Surat, Pune and Kochi. At the same time, Dhanbad in Jharkhand is the only city where the spending on weekends is 0.92 times, that is, people spend more on working days.

Relationship between income and expenses

It is also clear from the data that as people's income increases, their spending on weekends also increases. Those whose monthly income is more than Rs 1 lakh spend an average of Rs 21,779 on weekends, which is 2.53 times more than on normal days. This trend has been especially seen among women and educated families.

This report also shows that the tendency to spend more on weekends is higher in families where both husband and wife work.
