Mathura:There was anger among family members and villagers on Saturday after the death of a laborer who was injured due to falling of a roof during repair work at National Inter College. The family members of the deceased, along with hundreds of villagers, reached the main gate of the college with his dead body, placed the dead body and started protesting. The protesters demanded proper compensation to the family of the deceased and action against the contractor responsible for the accident.
Details of the accident
Laborer Pankaj, resident of Talfra village of Rajasthan, was busy in the ongoing repair work at the main gate of National Inter College on Friday. Meanwhile suddenly the platform fell heavily and Pankaj got seriously injured. He was referred to Agra for treatment, but on reaching the hospital the doctors declared him dead.
Demonstration of family members and villagers
After Pankaj's body reached the village on Saturday, the family and villagers became angry. A large number of people reached the main gate of National Inter College carrying the dead body and started protesting. The villagers said that safety standards were ignored during the repair work, due to which the worker lost his life. He raised the demand for financial assistance to the family of the deceased and action against those responsible.
Administration and police action
Considering the sensitivity of the matter, apart from Govardhan, police forces from Barsana, Magorra and Chhata police stations were deployed on the spot. SDM Sushil Kumar and CO Anil Kumar reached the spot and talked to the relatives of the deceased and the villagers and tried to convince them. The repair work in National Inter College was being done by Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority. Administrative officials remained busy in finding a solution to the matter by talking to the protesters.
