Vietnam gold prices rose Saturday morning, following a jump of the precious metal on global markets.

Saigon Jewelry Company gold bar went up 0.41% to VND146 million (US$5,632.17) per tael. A tael equals 37.5 grams or 1.2 ounces.

Gold ring fell 1.14% to VND146.9 million per tael. Gold prices in Vietnam have fallen 4.45% so far this year.

Globally gold prices firmed over 1% on Friday, rebounding ‌from recent losses and finding a short-term floor despite strong U.S. inflation data bolstering expectations of an interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve next week, Reuters reported.

Spot gold rose 1.1% to $4,363.01 per ounce. The metal, however, was down about 1.5% for the week.

“Gold is recovering rapidly after a brief dip, as CPI data may be cementing expectations of a Fed rate hike next week. The volatility is somewhat muted, as market had a hike 70% priced in,” said independent metals trader Tai Wong.

“Price action here suggests that gold is finding a short-term base after the recent retreat.”
