Not every scene shot is kept in the film
During the shooting of a film, several takes of the same scene are recorded. Apart from this, the camera is shot from different angles. In this, close-ups of the artist are taken and different reactions are also shot. Much of this footage is not even included in the final cut. Therefore, if an actor's scene is not seen in the film, it does not mean that the footage is immediately deleted. The editing team decides which scenes they have. After this it is decided what will be included in the editing and what will not. Many times even a well shot scene gets left out of the final cut because the film is getting too long or it has to be removed to maintain the pace of the story. Similarly, the entire track of a character can also be changed.
Old footage is kept safely
The footage recorded during shooting is essential for production. There is no doubt in this. In digital films, camera footage is kept safe in storage and backup systems. During editing, different takes and files are preserved so that any shot can be found again if needed.
Reshoots are also done.
The biggest change comes during editing when it is necessary to keep the actor's character in the film. If the makers want to retain the same character in the film, then a new actor is cast for it. After this the scenes of the old actor are reshot. Here too it is not necessary to shoot the entire film again. Only those scenes are reshot where the character requires them. If old scenes are related to other characters, some parts of them may have to be re-recorded so that continuity is visible in faces, clothes, locations, lighting and story. This is the reason why reshoots after changing actors are often costly for production. For which the old set has to be reinstalled, due to which one has to face many problems.
Sometimes you just have to redo a few shots
There is no need to re-shoot the entire scene every time there is a change. If most of the story is correct and only a few shots need changes, then the makers reshoot that part. These are usually called pickup shots. In these, any close-up, reaction, hand or other small part can be shot later. Suppose a new actor is visible in a scene only for a short period of time. In such a situation, instead of recreating the entire scene, the necessary angles and connecting shots can be taken again. After this the rest of the work is done on the editing table.
VFX is used to replace the actor
In today's time, technology has increased a lot. Many times, digital tools are also used to replace an actor in a film. However, this work is not as easy as it is thought to be. The VFX team has to carefully match the characters, camera movements, lighting, background and actions of other actors in the frame. In such a situation, if the camera is continuously rotating or the actor is interacting too much with other actors, there is a possibility of getting disturbed. Therefore VFX is not the easiest or cheapest option for every film. Therefore, sometimes reshoots are more appropriate.
The actor was replaced in the film All the Money in the World
The biggest example of actor replacement is found in All the Money in the World. The part shot by Kevin Spacey was removed from the film. Shooting was done again with Christopher Plummer instead. This case was special because the change had to be made during production work. Due to which many types of problems had to be faced. In such a situation, it can be understood that even after changing a big actor, the entire film does not end, for this the makers find another way.
Replacement is done in Bollywood also
It has been seen many times in Bollywood films, when an artist was replaced. An example of this was seen in Fitoor. When Tabu was replaced by Rekha and her part was reshot. Apart from this, Rani Mukherjee was cast in Chalte Chalte after Aishwarya Rai's departure. In such a situation, another question may be coming in your mind that when an actor or actress is replaced in a film, is he paid his fee or not?
