For the past few days, many old faces of BJP have been meeting CM Yogi Adityanath. In this series, Swati Singh, who was the Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the first term of Yogi Government, has a special meeting with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow. This courtesy meeting of Swati Singh, who had almost distanced herself from the political arena after being denied ticket in the 2022 assembly elections, with CM Yogi has intensified the murmur in the political circles. Questions are being raised whether BJP is preparing a plan to field Swati Singh again in the 2027 elections from Sarojini Nagar seat in Lucknow or any seat in Ballia?

The rise of Swati Singh, wife of Minister Dayashankar Singh, in politics was the result of circumstances. In the year 2016, Swati Singh's husband and BJP leader Dayashankar Singh had given a controversial statement on BSP supremo Mayawati. In response to this, BSP workers had used very abusive language against the mother and daughter of Minister Dayashankar Singh during the protest. Then Swati Singh came forward openly and fought for the honor of her mother-in-law and daughter and gave a tough challenge to the BSP leaders. This attitude of his gave him recognition in the media and public platform overnight.
Story of controversy, distance from husband and ticket being canceled in 2022
BJP later made Swati Singh the state president of Mahila Morcha. After this, he was given ticket from Sarojini Nagar seat of Lucknow in the 2017 assembly elections. She won and became the Minister of Child Development and Women Welfare in the first term of the Yogi government. During this time, the dispute between her and her husband Dayashankar Singh made a lot of headlines. After becoming minister, Swati Singh was surrounded by many administrative and personal controversies. By the time of 2022 elections, the relationship between Swati Singh and her husband Dayashankar Singh had turned sour and both of them started living separately.

In the 2022 assembly elections, both Swati Singh and Dayashankar Singh staked their claim from Sarojini Nagar seat. To end the deadlock arising out of this fight between husband and wife, the BJP high command canceled the tickets of both of them from Sarojini Nagar. The party fielded former ED joint director Rajeshwar Singh as its candidate, who became MLA by winning with a huge majority. At the same time, the party made Dayashankar Singh its candidate from Ballia seat, winning from where he became the Transport Minister (Independent Charge) in the present Yogi government.
What is the political meaning of meeting CM Yogi?
This meeting of Swati Singh at the Chief Minister's residence just before the 2017 elections is not being considered merely formal. After the Nari Shakti Vandan Act passed by the Parliament, BJP is going to give prominence to women faces in the 2027 elections. Swati has been a powerful female speaker. Along with this, the equation of Thakur vote bank is also a big factor. To keep the Rajput-Thakur equations simple in the areas of Awadh and Purvanchal, the party wants to reactivate a well-known face like Swati Singh.
New place or Legislative Council?
Since Rajeshwar Singh has a strong hold on the Sarojini Nagar seat, Swati Singh can be fielded from any other seat like another seat in Lucknow or any district of Purvanchal or the discussion of sending her to the Legislative Council is gaining momentum. Because Dayashankar Singh is also close with CM Yogi. In such a situation, if one of the husband and wife gets the ticket, then Dayashankar Singh seems to have the upper hand. In such a situation, people are looking for the meaning of this meeting with CM Yogi. There is discussion that she should be appointed to one of the posts in the State Women's Commission or MLC.
