Indonesian passenger ship missing : A passenger plane suddenly went missing in Indonesia. There were 240 people on board the ship and the search is on after contact was lost. On Sunday, Indonesian rescue teams launched a search operation for the passenger plane. The ship was en route from East Java to South Kalimantan province on the island of Borneo when it lost contact in the Java Sea.

According to media reports, the Search and Rescue Office in Banjarmasin city of South Kalimantan, located on the island of Borneo, said that they received the information at around 2 am on Sunday, two hours after the ship 'Vargo Transport 8' lost contact. The ship was bound for Banjarmasin from Surabaya, Indonesia's second-largest city in East Java province. According to preliminary information, the ship's last known position was in the Java Sea, approximately 148 kilometers (92 mi) from a pier in Banjarmasin.
According to the ship's manifest, there were 241 passengers on board. There were no immediate reports of any casualties. The ship's operator, PT Virgo Yoel Rihi, reported the loss of contact. He said the ship left Surabaya at 10:13 a.m. local time on Saturday. A rescue team was then dispatched to the Basirih Search and Rescue Pier in Banjarmasin.
A rescue ship was dispatched to the last known possible location of 'Virgo Transport 8'. “The operator of the vessel reported the incident to authorities after receiving information that it encountered bad weather,” I Putu Sudayana, head of the search and rescue office, said in a video briefing. He said authorities were mobilizing all available staff and resources as the ship was carrying a large number of passengers and crew members.
He said the agency is coordinating with maritime authorities and other concerned agencies in the search operation, while also closely monitoring the weather conditions in the area.
