India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final of the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup. The Women in Blue dismissed the rivals for 111 in 20 overs after posting 183/5. Chasing a big total on a spin-friendly wicket, the Island Nation couldn’t maintain the required run rate and crumbled under scoreboard pressure. Chamari Athapaththu (36 off 32) and Vishmi Gunaratne (20 off 22) were among the run-scorers, but they couldn’t break free, and Deepti Sharma got rid of the two batters.
Nilakshika Silva tried her best to keep Sri Lanka in the game, but her 22 runs in 16 balls went in vain. Harshitha Samarawickrama (9) and Kavisha Dilhari (7) were disappointed with the bat.
Shree Charani, the world number 1 bowler in WT20Is, was again spot on with the ball, dismissing four batters for 20 runs in 4 overs.
Earlier, India had a chance to touch the 200-run mark after a 129-run stand between the two openers, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, but their dismissal broke the momentum, with the other batters failing to play aggressively.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (14 off 14) was not able to time the ball, and even wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh faced similar issues. She amassed 17 off 13. It was Gunalan Kamalini’s unbeaten 15 off 5 that helped India post a challenging total.
For Sri Lanka, Athapaththu, Chamudi Praboda and Mithali Ayodhya took one wicket each. With their success, India have won the Women’s Asia Cup title eight times.
