New Delhi. The 18th BRICS Summit was successfully organized under the hosting of India. Bangladesh Prime Minister Tariq Rahman did not come to the BRICS summit and it was said from Bangladesh's side that he was not invited as PM. Now India has responded to this and clarified the situation. The Indian Foreign Ministry said that Tariq Rehman has been invited to visit India not once but twice. During the weekly press briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal was asked by a journalist whether Bangladesh Prime Minister Tariq Rahman had been invited to BRICS. To this he replied that we had invited the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for a bilateral visit. Subsequently, he was also invited to attend the BRICS summit as the Chairman of BIMSTEC. Thus he was invited twice, one for a bilateral visit and the other to attend the BRICS summit.

On the bilateral meeting between PM Modi Narendra and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the BRICS Summit and the question related to the South China Sea, Jaiswal said that the two leaders discussed issues of regional and global importance of mutual interest.

Expressed concern over the deteriorating situation in the Red Sea area

On a question about Houthi attacks on Saudi cities, Jaiswal said, our Foreign Minister had met the Saudi Foreign Minister during the BRICS Summit. They discussed many issues, regional and international developments and the Houthi issue also came up. As you know, we have condemned the attack on Saudi Arabia. We are deeply concerned about the deteriorating situation in the Red Sea area. Such attacks undermine regional stability and threaten the safe passage of ships through the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait. And this is not acceptable to us. We hope that peace and stability will be restored in the area soon.
