Mumbai: Rashmika Mandanna is set to portray legendary Carnatic singer MS Subbulakshmi in an upcoming biopic.
The actress has called the opportunity an “absolute honour” and expressed excitement about bringing the iconic musician’s life and legacy to the big screen.
Rashmika took to Instagram on Tuesday to announce the project and confirm that she will step into the role of the celebrated singer.
Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, the film will feature music by Anirudh Ravichander. Its title and first look will be unveiled on September 16 at 5:15 pm.
Sharing the announcement, Rashmika wrote, “Some legends live beyond time. Some melodies live beyond generations. And some stories wait for the right moment to be told. Today, that journey begins and What an absolute honour it is.”
Geetha Arts, one of the production houses backing the project, also shared details on social media. Actor, producer and parliamentarian Kamal Haasan will attend the launch as the chief guest.

MS Subbulakshmi, born Madurai Shanmukhavadivu Subbulakshmi in 1916, was one of India’s most celebrated Carnatic vocalists.
Over a career spanning nearly seven decades, she took the classical music tradition to audiences across the world, including at the United Nations General Assembly.
Known for her renditions of devotional and classical compositions, she received several prestigious honours, including the Bharat Ratna in 1998 and the Ramon Magsaysay Award.
She retired from public performances following her husband Kalki Sadasivam’s death in 1997 and passed away in December 2004 at the age of 88.
