Intensifying its campaign to dismantle the terror ecosystem, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday busted a terror module linked to the proscribed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in the border district of Rajouri by arresting three Over Ground Workers (OGWs).
The terror module was allegedly operating in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri with the aim of reviving terrorism in the mountainous region with the help of OGWs and sleeper cells.
The arrested accused have been identified as Zakir Hussain, son of Ghulam Hussain, a resident of Kotcharwal, Teryath, Rajouri; Mohammad Azam, son of Ali Bahadur, a resident of Kotcharwal, Teryath, Rajouri; and Mohammad Mushtaq, son of Mohammad Iqbal, resident of Udhan, Rajouri.
According to the preliminary findings of the investigation, the accused were allegedly involved in providing logistical assistance, facilitating the safe movement of terrorists and extending other ground-level support to terrorists operating in the Pir Panjal region.
Investigators have further found that the accused allegedly worked as guides and facilitators, assisting terrorist groups in their movement towards the Kashmir Valley.
Police have also established links that are being examined in connection with alleged support provided to terrorists associated with multiple serious attacks, including an attack targeting civilians.
A major recovery was made during the investigation after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered based on the disclosure of one of the arrested accused.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the IED had allegedly been handed over to the accused by members of a terrorist group for safe custody and possible use in a targeted attack.
Rajouri Police are now working to map the entire terror-support network, identify additional associates and determine the precise role of each accused in facilitating terrorist activities in the region.
The investigation remains underway, and further arrests or recoveries cannot be ruled out as investigators continue to establish the wider network and its operational links.
Senior officials said the arrests had exposed a crucial link in the cross-border terror network, and further interrogation is expected to reveal more associates and sleeper cells.
A wider manhunt is underway to trace the module’s backward and forward linkages. Further investigation is in progress.
Property of terror handler attached
In strong action against terrorism and its support networks, Police Station Thanamandi in Rajouri district attached immovable property belonging to a terror handler in its jurisdiction. The property of Nazarat Hussain, son of Mohammad Sadiq, resident of Niali Thanamandi, has been formally attached as per legal provisions in Case FIR No. 04/2011 U/S 3/4 E&IMCO Act of Police Station Thanamandi.
The attached land measures 01 Kanal and 2.5 Marlas, having an approximate value of 45 lakh.
During the proceedings, attachment boards were prominently installed on the said land in the presence of the concerned authorities and police, marking the property as attached under law.
This action reflects the firm commitment of District Police Rajouri to dismantle the support structure of terrorism and to take strict legal action against individuals involved in anti-national activities.
