BCCI announces India squad for West Indies series, Rohit Sharma retained; Auqib Nabi gets maiden call-up

Indian selectors named the squads for the three-match ODI series and five T20I matches against the West Indies. Shubman Gill will lead the side as the team management starts building the side for the upcoming ODI World Cup next year. Veteran stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been named in the side. Virat is a certainty, while Rohit’s future has been widely discussed.

There were speculations of the 39-year-old retiring after the ODI against England at Lord’s, but the batter’s ton in the third and final ODI silenced rumours. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has time and again stated that the former India skipper will continue to play as long as he is in the selectors’ plans. During a recent BCCI meeting, Saikia hit out at the scribes and said, “He scored a century in his last match and what more do you want? I don’t want to give fodder to speculations.”

Mohammed Siraj is also back in the ODI squad, and he will lead the pace attack in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence. Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar are the other two pacers. KL Rahul is the first-choice wicket-keeper for India in the ODI format. Dhruv Jurel has been drafted into the side since Ishan Kishan is bound to play in the Asian Games 2026.

Auqib Nabi and Naman Dhir have been handed their maiden ODI call-ups. Ravindra Jadeja has also returned to the fifty-over format.
