Rest of India announced for Irani Cup 2026, Rishabh Pant gets captaincy

Delhi:Rishabh Pant, who could not make it to Team India for the ODI series against West Indies, has now got a big responsibility. Pant has been appointed captain of the Rest of India team for the Irani Cup 2026. Rest of India will face Ranji Trophy 2025-26 champions Jammu and Kashmir. At the same time, star batsman Sarfaraz Khan will be the vice-captain of the team.

This match of Irani Cup will be played from 1 to 5 October at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar. In this big match of domestic cricket, many such players will be seen, who would like to strengthen their claim for the Indian team in the coming time.

Pant got the command of Rest of India

Rishabh Pant has not got a place in India's ODI team. Now he will take the field captaining Rest of India. Pant will also be an important part of the team as a wicketkeeper batsman.

Along with him, Sarfaraz Khan has been given the responsibility of vice-captain. Sarfaraz is known for scoring runs consistently in domestic cricket and his performance in this match will also be monitored.

Akash Deep may return

Fast bowler Akash Deep can make a comeback in competitive cricket after a long time. He has been away from the field for a long time due to a stress fracture in his lower back.

However, Akash Deep's return to the team still depends on his final fitness test. Interestingly, their last competitive match was also against Jammu and Kashmir. He played against Jammu and Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy match in February 2026. If Akash Deep passes the fitness test, then Irani Cup will be a good opportunity for him to make a comeback after a long break.

Apart from Akash Deep, the bowling department of Rest of India includes fast bowlers like Mukesh Kumar, Mukesh Chaudhary and Aryan Pandey. Anukul Roy will be responsible for the spin department. Along with him, Manav Suthar and Saransh Jain are also in the team. These three players had recently got a place in the Indian team for the Test series against Sri Lanka.
