Rice laden container overturns, driver narrowly escapes

Bindapathar, Jamtara, Jharkhand:- A container laden with rice went out of control and overturned on the roadside near Umeshwar Chaudhary's Gumti in Chapudiya village of Bindapathar police station area on Govindpur-Sahebganj State Highway at around 9 pm on Thursday night. The driver narrowly escaped the accident. No casualties have been reported. There was an atmosphere of chaos at the spot for some time after the accident.

■ Was carrying rice from Deoghar to Kolkata:

According to the information, container number WB 23 F 0509 was loaded with rice. According to driver Arvind Yadav, he was going to Kolkata with rice from Deoghar. While trying to save a vehicle which suddenly appeared near Chapudiya, the container lost its balance. After this the vehicle overturned after hitting a tree on the roadside.

■ Driver safe, villagers gathered on the spot:

As soon as the information about the overturning of the container was received, the nearby villagers reached the spot. It was fortunate that no one was present on the roadside at the time of the accident. People heaved a sigh of relief when the driver escaped safely.

■ Accidents have happened before, villagers worried:

Local villagers said that this part of the state highway near Chapudiya has already been witness to many road accidents. Drivers face problems in this stretch and there is a possibility of an accident. The villagers have demanded the concerned department to inspect the sensitive site and take necessary security measures.

■ Police started investigation:

As soon as the information was received, Bindapathar police reached the spot and investigated the crashed container. Police station in-charge Vinay Kumar Yadav said that the veracity of the incident and the reasons for the accident are being investigated. Further action will be taken after reviewing the documents of the vehicle.
