Amrit Thoughts. For the first time in the capital, money has been showered on the talent of women cricketers. In the first auction of Lucknow Women's Premier League held on Friday, franchises bid generously to include players in the team. During the auction, a maximum bet of Rs 25,000 each was placed on about two dozen rated players.
The auction was started by lighting the lamp by Cricket Association Lucknow (CAL) President and League Chairman Dr. Navneet Sehgal, CAL Secretary KM Khan, League Commissioner SP Mishra and Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Shaili. On this occasion, a book written by senior journalist Vandana Mishra on women's cricket was also released.
Purse increased, teams decided through lottery
Owners, coaches and experts of six franchise teams participated in the auction. Initially the purse of each franchise was kept at Rs 2 lakh, which was later increased to Rs 2.5 lakh by Chairman Dr. Navneet Sehgal. The base price of rating players was fixed at Rs 10 thousand and the maximum cap limit was fixed at Rs 25 thousand. There was a tough competition among the franchises to buy almost all the rating players. When several teams made a maximum bid of Rs 25,000 for the same player, the player was selected by holding a lottery under a transparent system. Only Aroma Tyagi was sold for Rs 24.5 thousand without lottery.
