Smriti Mandhana became the highest run scorer in T20I, overtook Suzie Bates

Delhi: Indian women's cricket team's opening batsman and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has made another big record in her name. As soon as she faced Bangladesh in the second semi-final of Asian Games 2026, Mandhana left New Zealand's great Suzie Bates behind and took the record of scoring the most runs in Women's T20 International.

Mandhana needed only 7 runs to make the record. He achieved this feat by hitting fours on two consecutive balls of Marufa Akhtar in the third over. With this, she reached the top in Women's T20 International, leaving Bates behind.

India decided to bat first against Bangladesh. In the third over of the innings, Mandhana hit two consecutive fours off the balls of Marufa Akhtar.

With these two boundaries, she completed her 4,758 runs in Women's T20 International and equaled Bates' record. Mandhana completely made this record her name by scoring a run on the very next ball. Even after this, Mandhana scored runs rapidly and reached 37 runs even before the end of the power play.

37 runs in 19 balls, yet the innings did not last long

After making the record, Mandhana could not stay at the crease for long. He scored 37 runs in 19 balls, which included 5 fours and 2 sixes. Mandhana was out on the last ball of the powerplay while trying to hit another six.

Mandhana now has 4,788 runs in her name in Women's T20 International. She has left behind Suzie Bates' record of 4,758 runs. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur is at third place in the list of batsmen who have scored the most runs in Women's T20 International with 4,287 runs.

Mandhana's big record in all three formats

Mandhana is not only the highest run scorer in T20 International. She is the highest run-scorer in all three formats of women's international cricket combined.

Mandhana leads in centuries also

Mandhana also holds the record for most centuries in women's international cricket. Recently, she made this record in her name by scoring a century against Hong Kong and China in the group stage of the Women's Asia Cup.

Now India will face Sri Lanka in the final

Indian women's cricket team has secured the ticket for the final by defeating Bangladesh by 114 runs.
