Indian women's hockey makes a stormy start in Asian Games, 19-0 victory against Uzbekistan

New Delhi, 20 September 2026: The Indian women's hockey team made a great start to their campaign in the Asian Games by defeating Uzbekistan 19-0 in the first match of 'Pool B'. Deepika Sehrawate scored eight goals, Ishika Chaudhary scored three goals, while Lalthanatluangi and Neha scored two goals each. India will face Indonesia in its next match tomorrow.

In India's victory, the players' attack and performance at the penalty corner were impressive. Savita Punia played the 320th senior international match of her career and along with this equaled Vandana Kataria's record of playing most international matches as an Indian woman player. Baljeet also completed his 50th senior international match.
