The gold ring scheme was originally proposed by former Chief Minister C. N. It was supposed to start on Annadurai's birth anniversary, September 15, but was postponed due to Chief Minister Vijay's UK visit. According to information received, the Tamil Nadu government will distribute 1.28 lakh gold rings in the first phase of this scheme.
More than 7 lakh babies are born every year in Tamil Nadu
Under the 'Thaimaman Thanga Mothiram' scheme, every baby born in a government hospital will be given a gold ring weighing one gram from June 22. A government order was issued on June 23 for this initiative. According to a press release, 7.8 lakh babies are born in Tamil Nadu every year. Of these, 4.2 lakh (53%) deliveries take place in government hospitals. In the first phase, 1,28,000 gold rings were purchased for this scheme.
Who will benefit from the scheme?
Mothers who are permanent residents of Tamil Nadu and have registered in Pregnancy and Child Tracking PICME system and obtained RCH ID will be eligible for this benefit. From September 28, babies born in government hospitals will be given a gold ring at the time of discharge.
What is special about a gold ring?

Under this scheme, 100 gold rings will be distributed daily to children born from June 22, 2026 at 107 hub centres. So only the permanent residents of Tamil Nadu will get the benefit of this scheme.
