Mumbai. Mumbai-based Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) on Monday removed Dean Suryanarayan Doula from the post with immediate effect in connection with the suicide of a student.
According to institute officials, Director Professor Shirish Kedare issued an official email saying that Professor Doola, currently working as Dean (Administrative Affairs), has been removed from the post.

It is alleged that Wakode committed suicide just hours after he was caught using a mobile phone during the examination. The student's family, a resident of Maharashtra's Yavatmal district, has alleged that Wakode was harassed at the institute and even faced caste discrimination following which he took the extreme step. After the student's suicide, students protested on the campus.
The protesters claim that threats were made to suspend Wakode. Following a complaint by the student's parents, police on Saturday registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. according to police, A professor has been made an accused in the case and the crime branch is investigating the case.
