Rahul Gandhi questioned that if the incident took place on September 19, then why are the accused still not behind bars?
New Delhi. Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday targeted the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government of the state over the incident of misbehavior with two minor boys and girls in Jamui, Bihar and asked why no girl is safe on the roads of the state after 7 pm?
Citing a video viral on social media, he also said that a case should be filed against the culprits under the POCSO Act and punishment should be given soon. The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said in a post on 'X', Bihar government should answer why no girl is safe on the roads of the state after 7 pm?
He claimed that a class 10 boy and a girl student were forcibly stopped on the way in Jamui and the girl student was harassed. Gandhi said that in the video, the student is seen pleading with folded hands to let him go, but despite this, some people allegedly kept touching and pulling her inappropriately.
Rahul said, who gave these people the right to behave like this? This is not 'culture', this is patriarchy. He alleged that the idea that a man has control over a girl's body, her movements and her likes and dislikes reflects a patriarchal mentality.
Rahul also said that when such control is normalized as a culture, the crowd starts thinking that it is the law. The Congress leader demanded identification of all the people seen in the video and a case against the alleged culprits under the POCSO Act and immediate punishment.
He questioned that if the incident took place on September 19, then why are the accused still not behind bars? According to Jamui Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Dayal, the incident occurred at 7 pm on September 19. He said that the accused have been identified and further legal action is being taken in this matter.
