Suchika made serious allegations of corruption after the controversial defeat!

Indian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Suchika Tariyal on Monday made allegations of 'corruption' after her controversial defeat in the semi-finals of the traditional 60 kg event and losing her arbitration appeal.

Suchika looked disappointed with the decision despite dominating the fight in the semi-finals against Singapore's Hui Hoon Tun. After the decision he expressed his opposition to arbitration. During arbitration, the judges reviewed the match and declared it a draw.

As per Asian Mixed Martial Arts Association (AMMA) rules, in case of a draw, the fighter at lower weight is declared the winner. Suchika expressed her displeasure over this controversial decision and losing the medal after arbitration and accused her of corruption.

Suchika, in an exclusive conversation with IANS, said, “I think he had to win because the federation is from Singapore. Even if I had weighed a little less, the decision would have been against me. He put everything on weight. He thought about his country, not about the player. There is corruption everywhere; I have seen it here today too.”

Suchika claimed that she did not agree with the referee's decision after the fight, as she had dominated the fight. “I gave my 100 percent. I don't even agree with the decision that went in her favor because I thought I was going to win,” she said.

I still think I was winning because I fought very well and was dominant in both rounds. At the last minute, she was running behind. I was competing with him. I was scoring and she was moving away, but still the decision came in her favor. “I didn’t agree with it and I didn’t even accept it, but the medal means a lot to me.”

Suchika told, “I am originally from Uttarakhand, but grew up in Delhi and got married in Haryana. In my parents' home, I have parents, we have 4 sisters and 1 brother. In my in-laws, I have mother-in-law, mother and a brother, who are very supportive. I have been married for 6-8 years, they have never stopped me for anything. I have got full support from both the families. I give this medal to my family to support.”

Following the protest, Suchika's coach Nikhil Kunder also spoke on the controversial arbitration decision. Kunder said that in the recheck there was no winner, hence the result remained a tie and the weight rule came into effect.

The coach said that when the fight was declared a draw, Singapore had two options: either go for counter-arbitration or choose the weight criteria under the rules of the Asian Mixed Martial Arts Association (AMMA).
