New Delhi: A heinous crime rocked the Central Delhi on Monday night after a five-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted, leading to widespread anger among local residents. The Delhi Police have arrested the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and launched a detailed probe into the incident.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place on Monday evening in the Shidipura area of Central Delhi. Initial details suggest that residents became aware of the incident and immediately approached the police demanding action.
The accused, reportedly a 34-year-old man from Delhi's Kishanganj area, was detained and brought to the police outpost following allegations raised by locals. Police officials are interrogating the accused and verifying the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence.
Angry Residents Surround Shidipura Police Chowki
The incident sparked anger among residents, with a large number of people gathering outside the Shidipura police chowki, demanding swift action against the accused. The gathering created a tense atmosphere in the locality, following which additional police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order.
Senior police officers from the Central district reached the spot and interacted with residents. Officials assured people that the investigation would be conducted fairly and strict action would follow if allegations are proven. The situation was later brought under control, while security arrangements remained in place as a precautionary measure.
Police Begin Investigation Under POCSO Act
Police have started legal proceedings under relevant provisions of child protection laws, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
The child is undergoing necessary medical examination as part of the investigation process. Police teams are also examining the alleged crime scene, collecting available evidence and recording statements of family members and witnesses.
The probe will focus on forensic examination, witness accounts, medical evidence and other investigative findings required to build the case. Officials are also looking into whether any other person was involved in the alleged incident.
