President gave awards
Honoring prominent personalities of Indian cinema at the 72nd National Film Awards, President Draupadi Murmu on Tuesday presented the Dadasaheb Phalke Award to Kannada actor Ananth Nag. Yami Gautam, Mammootty and Kartik Aryan received the Best Actor award on this occasion.
The film 'Article 370', directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, won the Best Feature Film award.
The award ceremony was held at Ekta Nagar in Narmada district of Gujarat, where the grandeur of the 'Statue of Unity' added to the grandeur of the event.
Special Awards and Winners
Actor-turned-director Randeep Hooda received the Best Debut Director award for 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar'. Rajkumar Periyasamy was given the Best Direction award for the Tamil film 'Amaran'.
Yami Gautam won the Best Actress award for her outstanding performance in the film 'Article 370'. Mammootty and Kartik Aaryan shared the Best Actor award for their performances in 'Brahmayugam' and 'Chandu Champion' respectively.
Sumira Roy's 'Bhangaar' won the Best Non-Feature Film award. Sanjeev Srivastava was awarded the Best Film Critic Award in Hindi.
Other awards and honors
Sachana Namidas received the Best Supporting Actress award for the Tamil film 'Maharaja', while Ropasree Varkady was awarded the Second Best Supporting Actress award for the Kannada film 'Mithya'.
Abhishek Jain's 'Maaran' received the Best Gujarati Film Award. Telugu film 'Pushpa: The Rule Part-02' received the Best Costume Design award.
Manoj Muntashir received the Best Lyricist award for the song 'Jaane Do' from the film 'Maidan'. Sanjay Mishra received the Best Supporting Actor award for 'Bhakshak'.
Music and Choreography
Abhay Jodhpurkar received the Best Male Playback Singer award for the song 'Navsachi Gauri Majhi' from the Marathi film 'Gharat Ganpati'. Vaikom Vijayalakshmi was awarded the Best Female Playback Singer for the song 'Angu Vana Konilu' from the Malayalam film 'ARM'.
Shashwat Sachdev received the Best Music Direction award for the songs of 'Article 370'. GV Prakash Kumar was honored for 'Background Music' of 'Amaran'.
'Article 370' won a total of three National Film Awards, including Best Feature Film, Best Actress and Best Music Direction.
