Mason Thamesknown for How to Train Your Dragonhas inked a deal with Sony Pictures. The actor is all set to be cast in a new coming-of-age comedy titled Narcs. Plot details of the movie have been kept under wraps so far.
On Wednesday, Deadline reported that Thames will be part of John Phillips’ directorial debut. Phillips is known for R-rated comedies such as Good Boys, Dirty Grandpa, and No Hard Feelings. Jordan and Justin Shipley have been brought on as writers on the project.
John Phillips and producer Gene Stupnitsky will also take a pass at the script. Phillips will also serve as an executive producer, along with Robert Lamonaca, under the Big Name Entertainment banner.
What else has Mason Thames been in besides How to Train Your Dragon?
Mason Thames’ credits include the hit Apple TV series For All Mankind, where the actor appeared for three episodes. His breakthrough work is considered to be in The Black Phone, directed by Scott Derrickson. As the lead, he received widespread critical acclaim for his performance. He reprised his role in Black Phone 2 and has since appeared in Walker and Incoming.
Thames’ next project was David Henrie’s Monster Summer, an indie horror-adventure film. After this, he went on to essay the role of Hiccup in the 2025 live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon. His most recent offerings include Nimrods and Idiots, both released in August of 2026.
Along with Narcs, the 19-year-old is expected to return to finish out the live-action How to Train Your Dragon trilogy. He also has a role in Donnie Yen’s Caine, which is set in the John Wick universe.
Further, Thames has also worked on a romantic drama called Regretting You. It was directed by Josh Boone and starred Jenna Fischer, McKenna Grace, Angela Kinsey, and Keen Ruffalo, among others.
