Salvation is not achieved by fasting

In Bhagavad Gita, Shri Krishna has clearly stated that people perform Yagya, charity and fast. Even if one attains virtue through these actions, a person does not attain salvation. In this connection, it is stated in Chapter 2 of Bhagavad Gita that those who remain engaged in the worship and yagya mentioned in the Vedas, many times wish for heaven. Because of which that person gets tied in the bonds of the world. Due to attachment and illusion a person is never able to attain salvation. According to Geeta, a person attains true salvation only when actions are performed without any desire for any result.

According to Bhagavad Gita, there is nothing wrong in worshiping and fasting. By fasting and worshiping, a person's mind gets purified. At the same time, a person should do three yogas, which are Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and Gyan Yoga. By adopting these a person can attain salvation.
