Mumbai: Mrunal Thakur is set to end an eventful 2026 with Pooja Meri Jaan, and the upcoming courtroom drama-thriller has now received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The film, which also stars Huma Qureshi and Vikram Singh Chauhan, will release directly on Zee5 on October 2. The CBFC issued the certificate on September 15.
Film receives ‘A’ certificate
According to the censor certificate, Pooja Meri Jaan has been cleared with an ‘A’ rating, restricting its viewing to adult audiences. The film has a runtime of 117.32 minutes, or 1 hour, 57 minutes and 32 seconds.
The certification makes Pooja Meri Jaan only the second film in Mrunal Thakur’s filmography to receive an ‘A’ certificate.
Her first adult-rated film was Love Sonia, released in 2018. The film dealt with the subject of human trafficking and marked an early significant role in her film career.
Mrunal has otherwise largely appeared in films that received ‘U’ or ‘U/A’ certification, making Pooja Meri Jaan a notable departure in terms of certification.
Mrunal’s eventful 2026
The new release comes after a busy year for Mrunal, who has appeared in films across different genres.
She began 2026 with the romantic film Do Deewane Seher Mein. She was subsequently seen in the pan-India action film Dacoit, which co-stars Adivi Sesh.
Mrunal then appeared alongside Varun Dhawan and Pooja Hegde in the comic caper Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hai.
With Pooja Meri Jaan, the actress is set to close the year with a courtroom drama-cum-thriller that takes a different tonal approach from several of her other releases.
Maddock Films backs the project
Pooja Meri Jaan is produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films. The production house has also backed several major Hindi films in recent years.
Interestingly, Pooja Meri Jaan is Maddock Films’ second consecutive ‘A’ certified release after Cocktail 2, which released earlier in 2026.
The film’s direct-to-digital release on Zee5 means audiences will be able to watch it from October 2 without a conventional theatrical run.
The Vvaan receives corrected certificate
Meanwhile, another recent CBFC development involving The Vvaan has drawn attention.
The Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia-starrer was cleared without cuts, with the certificate issued to the makers on September 22. However, the initial certificate did not mention that the film had been submitted with Audio Description (AD) and Closed/Open Captions (CC/OC) in accordance with accessibility guidelines for theatrical cinema.
The CBFC subsequently issued a fresh certificate containing the accessibility-related mention. As a result, the makers received two certificates carrying separate serial numbers, although there was no change in the film’s runtime.
CBFC chairperson Shashi Shekhar Vempati described the second certificate as a technical correction to the same certificate.
For Pooja Meri Jaan, the ‘A’ certification places the film in a different category from most of Mrunal’s recent mainstream releases and adds another distinctive feature to her 2026 film slate.
