Washington. Indian scientists have once again raised the prestige of the country on the international platform. The American Geophysical Union (AGU) has selected several Indian and Indian-origin scientists for the prestigious awards for the year 2026. These include climate scientist Roxy Mathew Koll, IIT Indore professor Neelima Satyam, Indian-origin American scientists Abdul Qadir and Faisal Hussain.
The special thing is that Uttar Pradesh also has a special connection with this achievement. Banaras Hindu University (BHU) alumnus Faisal Hussain has been selected for AGU's 'Ambassador Award'. Presently he is a professor at the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. His achievement has increased the pride of BHU in Varanasi and the entire Uttar Pradesh. Another name has been added to the list of personalities who have emerged from the land of UP and are showcasing their talent abroad.
Faisal Hussain's journey from BHU to America
Faisal Hussain has received education from Kashi Hindu University. After leaving BHU, he made international recognition in the field of academics and research. Currently he works as a professor at the University of Washington.
His selection for the 'Ambassador Award' from the American Geophysical Union is being seen as an international achievement of BHU's global academic influence and the talent coming out of UP. Roxy Matthew Koll's contributions to climate science
Roxy Mathew Koll, a climate scientist working at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, was awarded the 'Pavel S. Molchanov has been selected for the Climate Communications Prize. Koll has conducted research and scientific communication on topics such as rising temperatures of the Indian Ocean, changes in the monsoon, warming sea surfaces, cyclones and extreme rainfall. His work also includes studying the impacts of these climate changes on the people and livelihoods of South Asia. Under this award, the winner is given US $ 25,000, an inscribed award and an honor.
Neelima Satyam will receive Devendra Lal Memorial Medal
Professor Neelima Satyam of IIT Indore has been selected for the 'Devendra Lal Memorial Medal'. This honor is given to an early or mid-career scientist who has done outstanding research in the field of Earth and space sciences. Satyam, who has done research in the areas of geotechnical engineering, seismic risk, disaster-resilient infrastructure and geo-risk reduction, will also be awarded life membership of AGU along with a medal in her name.
Indian origin Abdul Qadir also in the honor list
Indian-American scientist Abdul Qadir has been selected for the 'Science for Solutions Award'. He is an assistant research professor at the University of Maryland. He has also worked with North East Space Applications Center based in Shillong.
Honor will be held in San Francisco in December
AGU has announced a total of 43 awards for the year 2026. All selected scientists will be honored during AGU's annual meeting to be held in San Francisco in December. The inclusion of BHU alumnus Faisal Hussain in this list of Indian scientists is a special achievement for UP. His educational journey, which started from Varanasi, reached America and is now associated with prestigious honors from the international scientific community.
