Dehradun, 28 September 2026: Amidst the continuous heavy rains in Uttarakhand, a major accident took place in the late evening on the Kedarnath Pagapala Yatra route. A five-year-old child died tragically after being entangled in the filth and stones suddenly falling from the mountain near Chirbasa. After this incident, transportation and infrastructure on the trekking route was disrupted, after which a major rescue operation was launched to safely rescue the devotees trapped on the road.
According to the District Disaster Management Department, the police control room had received information about sudden falling of stones from the mountain near Chirbasa. In this accident, five year old son Yash of Rohtash Yadav, resident of Etna, Uttar Pradesh, died on the spot. The rescue team deployed after the incident took the child's body in a palanquin to the MRP Bhairava temple located at Jangalchatti.
Due to falling of stones and filth, vehicular traffic was stopped on Kedarnath footpath near Chirbasa. Rescue teams were busy throughout the night in operations to rescue passengers stranded on the road. According to reports, more than 1,200 passengers have been evacuated safely so far. As some passengers are still stranded on the way, rescue teams are working continuously to take them to a safe place. Since there is frequent danger of stones falling from the hill in Chirbasa area, the administration has appealed to the travelers to be extremely careful.

Chardham Yatra stopped due to heavy rain
Chardham Yatra was postponed due to bad weather in Uttarakhand. Red alert was declared by the Meteorological Department for Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri and Haridwar and orange alert was declared for Chamoli, Nainital, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi. Apart from this, due to increase in the water level of river Ganga, rafting activities have also been stopped in Rishikesh. In view of the severe weather conditions, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed officials to remain on high alert and ensure the safety of passengers. The administration has requested not to undertake unnecessary travel on dangerous routes until the weather clears.
