Political parties have intensified their preparations for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2027. In this series, Janata Dal United (JDU) is also preparing to play an active role in the politics of UP. The party's special focus is on Purvanchal as well as those assembly seats where Kurmi and Kushwaha communities are considered to have a good population.
Tezzbuzz Desk– JDU leader and Health Minister in Bihar government Nishant Kumar reached Varanasi on Sunday. Here he indicated the party's preparations for the UP assembly elections. Talking to the media, Nishant Kumar said that just as JDU has got success in Bihar, similarly the party will try to perform better in UP.
Nishant Kumar said that JDU is a part of the NDA family and the party will contest the elections with strength in Uttar Pradesh also. However, the decision on how many seats the party will contest has not been taken yet. He said that all the constituent parties of NDA will decide the distribution of seats with mutual consent.
During the Varanasi tour, Nishant Kumar also held a meeting with the local unit of JDU at the Circuit House. Although his visit was described as a spiritual journey, the party's strategy for the upcoming assembly elections was discussed in the meeting. JDU General Secretary Awadhesh Singh and Secretary Santosh Patel were also present in the meeting.
It was decided in the meeting that a big public meeting of JDU will be organized on 25th October in Koruta Bazaar of Varanasi. The party is preparing to start its election campaign in Uttar Pradesh through this program.
According to JDU General Secretary Awadhesh Singh, Bihar Government Health Minister Nishant Kumar, National Executive President Sanjay Jha and many other party leaders will participate in the public meeting to be held on October 25. During this program, JDU will also launch its election chariot.
The party has named its election bus-like chariot as 'Nishchay Rath'. The slogan 'Employment means Nitish government' has been written on this chariot along with the picture of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The party plans to take forward its organization and election campaign in Uttar Pradesh through this chariot.
Political analyst Vijay Narayan says that JDU has been late in becoming active in Uttar Pradesh. According to him, the party should have increased its activities in UP during the Lok Sabha elections itself. However, he believes that being active in UP is an important step for JDU in terms of expansion of the party.
Caste equation in UP politics is also considered an important part of JDU's strategy. According to Vijay Narayan, the closeness of Patel voters with Samajwadi Party remains a matter of concern for BJP and a strategy is being made to bring Patel voters to its side. According to him, SP also has seven Kurmi MPs along with a strong Kurmi leader like Lalji Verma.
The share of Yadav voters in UP is said to be between 8 to 10 percent, while the number of Patel voters is said to be between 6 to 8 percent. If Maurya, Kushwaha and Shakya voters are also included in it, this figure is claimed to reach around 14 percent. This caste equation of Kurmi-Koeri and other backward classes is being considered an important reason behind JDU's activism in UP.
