“India is home to a rapidly changing, digitally-conscious community that embraces a cashless future and expects high standards of security and privacy. We're excited to bring Apple Pay to users in India today,” said Jennifer Bailey, vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet. The company said that Apple device users will be able to make payments in stores, apps and on the web, for which they will not need to enter PIN or use OTP at the time of checkout. “Customers with Visa and Mastercard credit cards issued by Axis Bank can add their cards to Apple Pay and use them at thousands of in-store and online merchants across India, as well as at locations where NFC transactions are accepted,” the statement said.

“When customers use cards with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device or Apple servers, nor does Apple share them with merchants. Instead, a unique device account number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in the 'Secure Element,' an industry-standard certified chip designed to securely store payment information on the device,” the statement said. Apple also does not retain transaction information. However, if a user's iPhone is lost or stolen, they can use the 'Find My' app to locate the device, lock it, or suspend payments from that device.
